Time Is Going to Run Your Business Into the Ground

You've probably read all about the traditional process of seeing light as an entrepreneur in your business courses. It starts off by conducting a market research, which is then followed by developing an idea, finally ending with organizing resources to see that idea to the finish line. I know I've spent nights cramming all this in my good ol' days. However, how often do entrepreneurs really use this route to build successful empires? Not very often.

This is what school doesn't teach you. It teaches you all the right definitions and the customary norms, but it doesn't teach you the factors that will ultimately distinguish you from just an entrepreneur to a successful one.

This jump, from a mere entrepreneur to one with a thriving empire, does not happen overnight. It takes nights and nights of hard work and stress. Those lines on the forehead are not signs of old age; they tell the story, the blood and toil, and the sacrifices of successful people. But then again, you've been working your nether region off as well. What else do you need to do?

You need to manage your time. No, don't nod off just yet. I know that time management has been done to death. But, do you know why every business article has a portion dedicated to managing time effectively? Because, most people may claim know everything about it theoretically, but they don't put it into practice.

Are you ‘winging it' when delegating tasks?
Is chaos your new norm?
Every time you get done with one small task, a million others are ready to demand your attention?

Have you been experiencing any or all of the above problems? If yes, then you're on your way to destruction. Well that may be a little too harsh, but you're certainly on the opposite track to success. And what's the main reason? Ineffective usage of time.

Focusing too much on the mundane tasks and lack of strategic management are at the forefront of the list of causes of ineffective usage of time. You may have an assistant and a team, but that hasn't solved your problems, has it? In fact, I'm willing to bet that it has, rather, increased them. So how do untangle yourself from this chaotic mess?

By thinking strategically.

A recent research showed that taking on from 3 to 6 employee roles in a day has become a norm. Thus, prioritizing your time and tasks is the first way towards achieving even a semblance of calm and effectiveness. Focusing on the niches where your expertise lies is how you're going to see success. But what about the plethora of mundane task waiting to be tackled? Well, give them off to someone who can do a much better job at handling them than you. Make the adage ‘20 percent of customers is equivalent to 80 percent of sales' your mantra. Another study claimed that 2 out of 3 people tend to perform multiple roles throughout the day, thus suffering from increasing pressure, and decreasing productivity rate. We're all prone to doing everything ourselves, but chores such as tweaking your website is not your number one priority. So don't make it one.
